Our History

At Rickard’s we’ve always liked to do things a little differently. That’s why when we brewed our first beer in 1983, we set off on a mission to craft something that would break away from the pack. What we brewed was a robust yet smooth ale. One with a dense, sweet malt bill and a slightly hoppy aroma. One that would come to be known across the country as Rickard’s Red.

With a crisper carbonation to set it apart from traditional Irish beers, Rickard’s Red is brewed with a unique blend of three different malted barleys to provide its distinctive malt sweetness and signature ruby colour. Its subtle hop character adds balance and depth to the sweet malt notes of candied cherry, making our Red perfect for those looking for a brew with a little more character.

Today, more than 30 years after deciding to take the road less travelled, Rickard’s is still a red like no other.

Rickard’s Red is brewed year round and is available at the LCBO. Buy It Here

Better Together

With its robust and malty personality, Rickard’s Red is a great pairing no matter what you’re making tonight.

  • beer and cheese pairing

Rickard’s Red is great at bringing out the richness of creamy cheeses. Its unique sweetness blends with the cream for a burst of smooth, honeyed caramel that lingers pleasantly on the palate.

  • beer and meat pairing

Rickard’s Red is perfect for cutting through the richness of savoury meats like barbecued ribs and grilled steak, and it holds its own when it comes to more distinct flavours like venison and lamb.

  • beer and fish pairing

There’s nothing better than classic fish and chips or blackened cod with a cold Rickard’s Red. Its sweeter notes like candied cherry and bruised apple serve as a refreshing palate cleanser with any fish.
